SEND
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Here at St Nicholas and St Laurence CE Primary School, we believe that the child is at the centre of everything we do. Ours is an inclusive school where all children are involved in every aspect of school life both inside and outside of the classroom to enable them to be the best version of themselves.
To enable this to happen, regular advice, support and training is given to meet the individual needs of the children within the school. There are different support systems in place which give groups of children extra support in the areas they need it; for example, fine motor skills groups, reading groups, numeracy groups, and ELSA groups. This can also be the case for individual support.
Every child on our school's SEND register has a progress plan. An Individual Progress plan is constructed to support the specific needs of each child and is regularly reviewed by the class teacher, SENDCo and parents/carers. This is through our termly progress meetings. We seek to work in partnership with parents/carers and acknowledge that they have a very important role in supporting this work too.
Disability
The school’s admissions policy is inclusive and places are offered to applicants irrespective of sex, religion, ethnicity or country of origin, disability or academic ability.
All parts of the main building are accessible to wheelchair users. There are disabled toilets and we provide disabled parking close to the main entrance. Our Accessibility Plan is reviewed annually, where needed, and where a specific need arises, plans will be made to address any particular needs as appropriate.
Ours is an inclusive school where all children, including those with disabilities, are involved in every aspect of school life both inside and outside of the classroom. Wherever possible, specialist knowledge, support and/or equipment will be obtained to support children. We will seek support from Specialist Services and professional to ensure that all children are correctly catered for.
Here, at our school, we always:
- use our best endeavours to make sure that a child with SEN gets the support they need – this means doing everything we can to meet children and young people’s needs
- ensure that children and young people with SEN engage in activities of the school alongside pupils who do not have SEN
- inform parents throughout any decisions made about SEN
- adapt provision to meet the needs of the child to enable them to access all curriculum areas
- inspire our children to have high aspiration
Our SENDCo with responsibility for all Special Educational Needs and Disabilities is Miss Loader.
